Notes: Bishop’s Cap has tiny white fringed flowers on thin stems. It has a single pair of leaves half way up the stem. Bishop’s Cap spreads slowly by rhizomes to make a groundcover. The flowers are pollinated by Syrphid flies and small short-tongued bees. These insects drink nectar from the flowers; the Syrphid flies also feed on the pollen, while the short-tongued bees collect pollen to feed their larvae. This plant makes a wonderful addition to a Spring wooded area. Bishop’s Cap can tolerate drier full shade sites, but prefers medium soils and partial sun during the Spring months. Also know as Miterwort or Twoleaf Miterwort.
