9/29/22 Native Plant Garden Volunteer Session

NATIVE PLANT GARDEN VOLUNTEER SESSION

Tuesday, October 20 • 10 am – Noon

920 Cherry Street SE, Grand Rapids

Fall is here, and the Native Plant Education Garden (NPEG) is still bursting with color from Asters, Goldenrods, and pretty fall foliage.

The monthly garden work sessions are a perfect place to learn about planting, identifying and caring for native plants. We had so many helping hands during our September work day, it was a great turn out and very much appreciated. Whether you are an experienced gardener or just beginning your education, this is an opportunity you should explore. We would love to have new and familiar faces return for the next garden session that will be Thursday, October 20th from 10–12pm! The garden is starting to wind down for the year, so if you haven’t had time to enjoy it this year please come out and join us.

Many tools are provided, but if you have them, please bring: garden gloves, hand pruners, shovel or rake, trowel, kneeling pad and drinking water. In the event of light rain, please bring a rain jacket!

There is a restroom on site and free parking behind the garden adjacent to the large building and behind The Green Well Restaurant.

Tasks may include seed collection, pruning back old growth, weed removal, removing plant labels, staking tall plants, transplanting some species and planting new species. (We have over 80 different species now!) We also may need to thin some species this session, so please bring some empty pots for plants that might need a new home!

Please direct any questions you may have to [email protected].
