Notes:
Swamp Rose is an upright deciduous shrub with arching branches. It typically grows to 3-5′ tall and as wide. It is ideal for rain gardens, swales or along water features. It thrives in nutrient-rich organic soil found in wetlands or pond edges. Swamp rose spreads slowly by suckers to form colonies and can help prevent soil erosion.
The flowers are a light pink with contrasting yellow center stamens, and solitary or a few in a cluster, and are 1 to 2 inches in diameter. The rose hips (fruit) are red and fleshy on the outside, with a mass of seeds inside the rose hip and are eaten by birds.
Good air circulation provides for healthy growth and helps control foliar diseases. Prune as needed in late winter.
