Description
Lady Fern, Athyrium filix-femina
QUART POT
Light: Shade
Moisture: Medium, Moist
Soil: Clay, Loam, Sand
Height: 1–2 feet
Bloom Season: June, July, August
Bloom Color: Green
Notes:
Lady Fern grows best in shade with medium moisture, but tolerates dry soil. It can stand some direct sunlight if the soil is moist. Lady Fern spreads slowly by rhizomes forming small colonies—but is not aggressive. The large fronds are light green and deeply cut. Divide the clumps in the early spring, every few years if you desire a faster spread. Plant with Solomon’s Seal, Jack- in-the-Pulpit, and Wild Ginger in the shade garden.
